KAMA-MÉTA-Network 2.0 – Community and Traditional Team Games, 2023-2025
ERASMUS SPORT SMALL COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMME
We were invited by the Zöld Meteor Kama Physical Education and Hiking Association to be part of an international cooperation programme, the primary goal of which was the preservation, introduction, and practice of community and folk (team) games. The programme consisted of a series of workshops and sports events focused on collecting, publishing, and popularising forgotten or marginalized folk games (such as méta, kama) and lesser-known team sports.
The project addresses traditional sports heritage, with its main themes including traditional folk games, old team games, ball, bowling, and skittles games, as well as striking team games. This latter category includes games related to baseball and cricket, such as méta, schlagball, pasepallo, lapta, Danish longball, brännboll, oină, and palant. Furthermore, community skill games such as tukázás, gorodki, mölky, Viking chess, as well as pétanque, bocca, and mancsozás, were also covered. The collection is further enriched by kama, határlabda, füleslabda (schleuderball), and Gaelic football.
