Saving Count Miklós Bánffy’s Transylvanian Home – Phase III of the Works
The third phase of the conservation of Bánffy Castle in Bonțida has begun (2025–2032). This phase focuses on the monumental architectural ensemble’s Main Building, the modernisation of the Kitchen Building’s attic and the redevelopment of the courtyard.
The Main Building is the largest and most defining part of the castle ensemble, and its restoration has been carried out in stages since 2018. In the third phase, both exterior and interior works will continue, with special attention given to the repair of the roof structure, the renewal of the façade’s plaster and the restoration and recarving of stone elements. These interventions not only ensure the preservation of the building but also contribute to restoring the castle’s impressive appearance.
As part of the project, the modernisation of the Kitchen Building’s attic will also be carried out, along with the construction of new staircases that comply with current regulations. The development is implemented in cooperation with several institutions and professional partners, ensuring high-quality and long-term sustainable solutions.
During the Phase III, comprehensive landscape architecture works will also be carried out as part of the garden redevelopment. The renewal of the surrounding green spaces is an integral part of the castle’s conservation, as many of the events organised here take place outdoors, and one of the greatest attractions of the architectural ensemble is its well-maintained, atmospheric courtyard.
