Transylvania Trust

Activities / Heritage days for schoolchildren

The training strategy of the Transylvania Trust includes a co-operation with schools from within the region, through which are organised educational programmes in environmental protection. Additional programmes with technical colleges, involve the students in direct participation in the restoration workshops. Both programmes contribute to the awareness raising of the importance and values of the built heritage. Educating the young generation is extremely important, because it will be their task to protect the built heritage in the future.
Through the heritage days hundreds of children participate in a programme which includes training in local history and geography. The teaching is non-formal and interactive, delivered by professionals of the Transylvania Trust with the involvement of the teachers. The children learn about the history of the castle, about the role of the Bánffy family throughout the centuries. They become the “butlers of Bánffy castle” for a day, to understand the social history of the past.
