The digital course in traditional building crafts is accessible

We created the Digital Course in Traditional Building Crafts to preserve and popularise building crafts as intangible cultural heritage. The project’s goal is therefore to document traditional building crafts and make them widely known in order to preserve and transfer this knowledge.

The project consists of two main parts: the first provides intensive, practice-oriented training in masonry, joinery, and stonemasonry during a camp at Bánffy Castle in Bonțida, while the second serves as a theoretical introduction to the stonemasonry, masonry, and joinery trades, in the form of a multi-module online curriculum.

The digital course, which is available in romanian and hungarian on the Transilvania Trust Foundation’s platform, also provides insight into the current status of traditional building crafts through an introductory lecture, complemented by videos and didactic materials. The programme thus offers practical skills and knowledge to interested individuals, students, and professionals, facilitating the continued survival and contemporary utilization of traditional trades.
